What is ThinkingWest?

This is the first post on my new blog called ThinkingWest. I’m Christian Poole, an American Catholic dad to two kids, husband, soon-to-be doctor of engineering, and hobbyist to many a thing – including this blog.

ThinkingWest is my outlet for thought on a range of topics that actively run through my mind, while reading great books, learning new things in the world, or just plain random thoughts throughout the day. Considering the certainly huge range of topics that run through one’s head throughout the day, I’m focusing this blog on religion, education, and culture through my (in my opinion) very traditional Christian lens.

What this blog isn’t is a blog about politics. While I think there are important issues to cover, politics bombards the average unsuspecting bystander a hundred times a day. And God knows, one can only withstand so much of it.

My goal with ThinkingWest is simply to create something that encourages thought beyond the normal thoughts of the day. Part of that is educating (providing information); another, equally important, part is inspiring you to want to know more. I hope to accomplish this goal by drawing from my own thoughts, those I come across while reading “the Great Books” (think Cervantes, Tolstoy, Dickens, etc.), and by drawing on history to tell interesting stories.

I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates. Also, I love great quotes, so here’s one for the new year:

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.
